About Speckled Finch Studios
I'm Nina - a maker and fiber artist and Speckled Finch Studios is my small hand-dyed yarn company run out of my home studio just a stone's throw away from both Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I've been knitting since 2004 which led the way to experimenting with hand-dyeing and, eventually, to the launching of Speckled Finch Studios in 2017. My yarn is dyed in small batches and colorways are inspired by a magical mix of the stunning nature found along the Northern California coast, pop culture, and whimsy.
Every skein is dyed with professional acid dyes and with a lot of love and care! I use a variety of techniques to get unique colorways. One of the beauties of hand-dyed yarn is that each skein will be slightly unique - some may have more speckles, some a little more concentration of a color. While I do use specially crafted formulas to keep colorways as consistent as possible, no two skeins will be exactly the same. I recommend that you alternate skeins every couple of rows when using more than one skein of the same colorway. If you order multiple skeins, I will match them as best I can. Please note that while I always try to capture the colors correctly when photographing, with different monitors colors can vary greatly in appearance.
I believe that making and creating can connect and bring people together and I care a lot about what happens in my community (locally, worldwide, the fiber community, etc). I strive to continually learn and grow as an individual and as a business - so that my online and physical spaces are safe for people of all races, religions, socio-economic status, gender identities and expression, sexual orientations, abilities, ages, and bodies. I'm committed to social justice for marginalized people and regularly donate to organizations that advocate for those causes and amplify the voices and needs of the people they support.
